Sponsored Post: K-Food & CN Blue Video Plus My Kimchi Ramyun Omelette

Are you a fan of Korean food? Do you remember your first Korean food experience? Mine sent me back years ago when I was studying in Sydney. I lived with Korean flatmates, and one of them is an amazing cook. She introduced me to homemade Korean food. I remember the flat always smelling of kimchi as my flatmates made a huge batch and we always had our fridges full of them. Interestingly, I was not in love with Korean food in the beginning, I was probably not as adventurous an eater as I am now. The thing that really got me hooked was… Shin Ramyun instant noodles (well, of course – isn’t it the official international student food?). We always had boxes of ramyun to survive on a student budget, and I still eat them often - up until now :)

I love Korean food a lot more now – thanks to my obsession with Kpop & Kdramas. Anyone with me on this? Tell me I am not the only mad and obsessed ahjumma here. Whenever I see my idols slurping a bowl of ramyun… (I don’t wanna finish this sentence, can you finish it for me?)

Here’s a video of one of my favorite Kpop groups, CN Blue – promoting Korean food. My bias is Jung YongHwa – liked him since You Are Beautiful (I love rooting for the underdogs), and he looks so charming in this video – especially on 00:47 mark where he’s promoting Citron tea. Cuteee! Are you a CN Blue fan? Who’s your bias?

Apart from enjoying my ramyun as per the cooking instructions with a lot of sinful toppings, I also love turning it into an omelette.
Kimchi Ramyun with Spam Omelette

Very easy and tasty. Perfect for breakfasts or cut into smaller portion as a snack. I added kimchi, spam, and cheese too. My favorite combo!

Kimchi Ramyun with Spam Omelette
The perfect snack for watching more Kshows and Kdramas
A cup of citron tea would be lovely too.
Enjoy!

Super Easy Mini French Toasts

Super Easy Mini French Toasts
The first French Toasts I tried was the Hong Kong style golden brown deep fried one. I do love it, but I didn't realize that I'd love these non-deep-fried ones, and they are so simple to make too!

Recipe
(yields 6 mini french toasts. they are very rich and filling tho)
- 1 egg, beaten
- half cup of milk
- 1cm thick slice of butter, cut from 1 stick - melted, and 1 tsp for frying (mixed with cooking oil)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1 small mixed grain bun, cut into 1 cm thick pieces

Mix beaten egg, milk, melted butter and sugar, add slices of bread, make sure the bread pieces are fully soaked in the mixture, let them "marinate" for at least 15 minutes. Heat up frying pan with cooking oil and butter, pan fry pieces of bread until golden brown.

You should get very fluffy, creamy, eggy inner part and crispy outer part. Very yum! And as if these aren't sinful enough...I ate mine with peanut butter, cream cheese, and Nutella. Perfect for breakfast or tea time.

Super Cheesy Baked Egg with Broccoli

Cheesy Baked Broccoli Egg with Cheese
Cheesy is pretty much what I am all about. I kinda overdid this a bit. Well a lot. The amount of grated cheese I added to this thing was ridiculous, but hey... the block of cheese was gonna expired soon, I had no choice right? Plus, there's never too much cheese in my book ^_^

So this was one of my last low carb breakfast before I went on a chain of business trip. I'll surely go back home and make this easy treat again.
Cheesy Baked Broccoli Egg with Cheese
Recipe
(served just me ^_*)
- 1 egg, beaten
- a dash of cream
- lots of grated cheese (like a tiny mountain of it), I used cheddar, but if you had a bit of mozzarella to go with it, it'd be nice too
- a handful of chopped broccoli (just used some leftover, a handful of frozen peas would be nice too)
- a bit of pepper
Preheat oven to 200C, throw everything, except a bit of grated cheese to put on top, bake until golden brown and fluffy. Serve with chilli sauce or tabasco.

And I got slimmer a bit eating this sinful thing? Howww?

Mushroom Omelette with Black Truffle Pate

Mushroom Omelette with Black Truffle
OMG! It's been so long!
Lots have been going on in my life... a new job, a new flat, business trips, etc etc etc...I am overwhelmed!
And naturally, I've been eating a lot of carbs, dumping my diet aside, which is a bit sad since it was going so well :(

Anyway, looking at my old low carb pictures, I am inspired to start again, and I'd like share this one with you. It's meatless but very tasty and satisfying with a touch of luxe ;)

Recipe
- 1 egg, beaten
- half a cup of button mushrooms, sliced
- a tsp of black truffle pate
- butter, salt, pepper

Melt butter in a non stick frying pan, saute mushrooms, season with salt and pepper, pour beaten egg, cook for a bit (do not overcook), flip, serve and add black truffle pate on top.

YUM!

The Bin Tai - Ham, Cheese, Fried Egg, Mayo, & Potato Chips Sandwich

The Bin Tai - Ham, Cheese, Fried Egg, Mayo, & Potato Chips Sandwich
Junk food haters, cover your eyes. This post is gonna disgust you to oblivion.
Inspired by e_ting at desk's post, the nutella cookie peanut butter sandwich, last night I made this monstrosity that I named "the bin tai" (Cantonese for perverted).
It's fully loaded with all kinds of junk that I found in my kitchen.
The Bin Tai - Ham, Cheese, Fried Egg, Mayo, & Potato Chips Sandwich
It's like this:
- A slice of buttered bread
- Slather mayo
- Add a slice of ham
- Add fried egg (runny yolk ftw)
- Add potato chips (I used Lay's sour cream and onion)
- Add a slice of "cheese"
- Add more potato chips
- Dump in the oven until the "cheese" melted
- Squeeze a few dots (or dollops) of mayo
- Squeeze a few drops of ketchup or chilli sauce

If you're up for it, top it with another slice of bread.
The Bin Tai - Ham, Cheese, Fried Egg, Mayo, & Potato Chips Sandwich
Did I really eat this bin-tai-ness?
Yes I did.
And the most bin tai thing is, I really loved it.
Sobsssss.....please don't hate me.

Three Egg Fried Rice 三色蛋炒飯

Three Eggs (Normal, Salted & Century Egg) Fried Rice
What are the three types of egg in this fried rice? Normal, salted and century (thousand year) egg. I loved the idea the moment SC threw it at me. Why haven't I thought of this before? We went to the market to buy our eggs.

Three Eggs (Normal, Salted & Century Egg) Fried Rice
You must've recognized the regular chicken egg, the black one's the salted egg, and the grainy one is the century/thousand year old egg.
中國人應該好熟三種蛋, 黑色隻係咸蛋, 外面有一粒粒隻係皮蛋, 肉色個隻唔使講, 大家都知係雞啦

They were cleaned and then boiled for about 10 minutes, starting from cold water to prevent from cracking.
清理好D黑色同一粒粒野, 就洗乾淨佢地, 放入室溫水煲10分鐘
Three Eggs (Normal, Salted & Century Egg) Fried Rice

They yolks look like this.
三個蛋黃都唔同架, 好得意
Three Eggs (Normal, Salted & Century Egg) Fried Rice

SC pointed out to me that before plastic bags were widely used in Hong Kong, sprigs of scallions from the wet market used to be tied up this way...
榮幸地今日去街市買䓤, 佢地冇比膠袋而比個好懷舊既咸水草我, 真環保

Three Eggs (Normal, Salted & Century Egg) Fried Rice

What else went into the fried rice apart from the three eggs?
除左蛋, 仲要蝦米, 䓤
Three Eggs (Normal, Salted & Century Egg) Fried Rice
We added dried shrimps and scallion.

Easy Cheesy Baked Egg Breakfast

Cheesy Baked Egg Breakfast
I made some cupcakes last night, but was in the mood for a hot savory breakfast this morning, so I just dumped an egg, some milk, a bit of oil, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, mix it up, topped with grated parmesan cheese and baked it in 250C oven for a few minutes....and done.

Cheesy Baked Egg Breakfast
Hot cheesy, eggy, savory, quick and easy breakfast.

Sinful English Muffins Breakfast

English Muffin Breakfast
How do you like your breakfast?
Healthy? Tasty? Powerful?
For me...I like mine sinful.

This is how I like my English muffins...
The savory one...
English Muffin Breakfast
Buttered toasted english muffins, slathered with mayo, ketchup and Indonesian chilli sauce, filled with the layers of sinful junk...pan fried spam (crispy on the outside, soft and tasty on the inside), cheese, and fried egg, over easy, with yolk that's still runny.
Oh my!

As for the sweet one...
English Muffin Breakfast
Buttered, toasted English muffins, slathered with peanut butter, jam, and drizzled with sweet condensed milk.

Generously.

For me, if this is not a good morning, I don't know what is :D

Udon Goreng Siram Telor - Fried Udon with Meat & Egg Topping

Udon Goreng Siram Telor - Fried Udon with Meat & Egg Topping
I miss kwetiaw goreng siram telor (fried hor fun/flat rice noodles with meat & egg topping), and there's no place in Hong Kong that serves this Chinese-Indonesian dish.

As luck would have it, the day I wanted to try making my own version of this dish...I couldn't find rice noodles anywhere near me.
Bah! As if that would stop my craving.
No rice noodles, udon it is :D

It worked well and I love the extra chewiness that udon has.

Recipe
(serves 3)
- 3 packs of udon
- seasoning for udon: dark soy sauce, light soy sauce, a touch of oyster sauce
- 1/2 lbs sliced meat for stir frying (normally, it's beef. I used pork, and you can replace with chicken or seafood)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 4 cloves of garlic, minced
- fish sauce, salt, a touch of sugar, white pepper, corn flour diluted in water, vegetable oil for stir frying

Marinate meat in fish sauce, white pepper, a bit of sugar, and corn flour, set aside. Prepare about 3 tsp of corn flour dilluted in a small bowl of water and beat the eggs, season with a bit of salt. Saute garlic in hot oil, add meat, stir fry until cooked and season well. Add diluted corn flour, add egg mixture, stir well, set aside.

I "separated" my udon in a big bowl of hot water for a couple of minutes, drain and discard the water. Heat up a bit of vegetable oil in a frying pan, add udon, season with light soy, dark soy and a touch of oyster sauce.

Pour the meat and egg mixture on the fried udon, serve hot.

Ideally, add a bit of vegetables (kai lan or choy sum or others) into the egg and meat mixture, and you'll get yourself a well balance one dish meal.

Enjoy! :)

Good Morning, Breakfast! Mushroom Cheddar Omelette

Mushroom Cheddar Omelette
Dammit.
I need to cut my carb intake.
Doctor's order.
That means no more fried savory donuts and buns for me for a while :(

Ah wells...let's do protein plus then.
Eggs, milk, cheese and mushrooms.
Mushroom Cheddar Omelette
Recipe
- 2 eggs
- a dash of milk
- half cup of mushrooms
- a bit of cheese chunks or grated cheese, I used cheddar
- salt, pepper, butter, olive oil

Saute some mushrooms of your choice with olive oil and a tiny bit of butter (optional), let them brown a bit, season with salt and pepper, set aside.
Mushroom Cheddar Omelette
Beat two eggs, add a bit of milk, season with a bit of salt and mix well. Add a bit of olive oil into frying pan, pour the egg mixture, let it cook gently, we don't wanna overcook the eggs. Add the sauteed mushrooms and chunks of cheese, once the egg is firm enough, flip the empty side of the eggs over the mushrooms and cheese, or you can tilt your frying pan to let some egg mixture to mix and get cooked with the mushrooms and cheese.

I like the outer side of my egg to have a bit of brownage, so I increased the heat a bit to brown the surface.
Mushroom Cheddar Omelette
I like mine with a bit of Indonesian chilli sauce.
Enjoy this with morning coffee.
Ahhh, good mornings! :)

Naughty Weekend Breakfast - Corned Beef, Egg, & Cheese English Muffin

Naughty Breakfast - English Muffin, Corned Beef, Fried Egg, Cheese, Mayo, Ketchup, Butter
One of the things that I love about weekends is...the luxury to enjoy sinful breakfasts.
Right.
As if my weekday breakfasts aren't sinful enough...

One breakfast that I have been missing is..good old McDonDon breakfast.
Sausage egg McMuffin, hash brown, and coffee. Hmmm~
Obviously, my taste, my palate...not so sophisticated after all! :D

Unfortunately, there's no McDonald's near my place.
Dammit!

To solve this lack of McDonDon-ness, I bought a pack of Garden's English muffins, and whipped up this super sinful brekkie last weekend.
Naughty Breakfast - English Muffin, Corned Beef, Fried Egg, Cheese, Mayo, Ketchup, Butter
"Recipe"
Slice an English muffin into two, slather generously with butter...and place it butter side down on a non stick pan, let it brown a little, take 'em off the pan, set aside.
...and then, let's crank it up a notch.
Slather mayo and ketchup generously on both sides. Yum. Good enough to eat already, but don't!
Not yet.

Since I don't have those artificial, chemically flavored "sausages" that McDonDon serves...I used some leftover corned beef instead. Equally unhealthy, equally sinful, and probably more delicious ;)

I love corned beef the best when it's fried with a bit of oil until you get some of crispy bits...yum! After frying, dump a generous amount of it on the buttered, mayoed, ketchuped muffin.

Then fry an egg...I like mine over easy with some crispy white bits. So heat up quite a bit of oil (I've already mentioned that this is gonna be unhealthy and sinful, right? :D)...crack the egg, let some parts get crispy, and flip. Almost immediately, transfer the egg on the other side of the muffin, we want runny egg yolk, my friend :D

Top the egg up with a slice of cheddar cheese...and the rest...is history.
Naughty Breakfast - English Muffin, Corned Beef, Fried Egg, Cheese, Mayo, Ketchup, Butter
Is there anything sexier than biting into this tower of sin, including the runny egg yolk?

Well, I can tell you that it's not sexy when the yolk's dripping all over your white sofa.
So, handle with care, folks!

This is only Wednesday but I'm looking forward to the weekend already :)

Prawns and Eggs - A Classic Hong Kong Dish

Hong Kong Home Cooking - Prawns and Eggs
A recipe
stolen copied from SC's mama...and I can never do this dish the way she did, I can't put my finger on it...the Chinese traditional wok? the fire? the oil? the air? I dunno, but hers is just always yummier. I guess it's probably that mama's magic touch eh?

Hong Kong Home Cooking - Prawns and Eggs
Recipe
- 2 cups of shrimps, shell removed, deveined, butterflied
- shrimp marinate: tiny bit corn starch, chicken stock powder, salt, pepper, chilli powder
- 4 eggs, beaten
- a sprig of spring onion, chopped
- fish sauce, pepper, olive oil

Marinate shrimps while preparing the rest of ingredients. Season beaten eggs with fish sauce and pepper, add chopped spring onions in too. Heat up oil in a wok, add shrimps, cook quickly until it just turns pink, pour egg mixture, let cook for a bit, scramble a bit, remove and serve. Do not overcook the shrimps and the eggs.

Good luck trying, I'll just go to her place to have this dish ;)

Pepperoni Instant Noodle Casserole

Pepperoni Instant Ramen Casserole
It was Thursday night...and I fancied a super rich and sinful breakfast to celebrate a happy Friday morning ^_^

I wanted noodles, eggs, cheese, something meaty...and of course, easy peasy. So here it is...
Pepperoni Instant Ramen Casserole
Recipe
- 1 pack of instant ramen noodles (you don't need the seasoning)
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 cup of milk
- about 20 slices of pepperoni
- half cup of cheddar cheese, grated, divided
- 1/4 tsp salt, black pepper, paprika, mixed dry herbs (rosemary, oregano, sage, thyme), a dash of Worcestershire sauce, 1/4 tsp sugar, a dash of garlic powder

Preheat oven to 180C/350F. Cook the instant ramen only to make it "moldable"/"spreadable" in the baking pan, set aside. In a large bowl, mix beaten eggs, milk, add seasonings and half of the grated cheese. Mix the noodles into the liquid, pour into a lightly greased baking dish/pan, add pepperoni pieces, add cheese on top and bake for about 40 minutes until the top is golden brown and slightly crispy.

Super sinful savory goodness!
Pepperoni Instant Ramen Casserole
The only bad thing was...SC didn't allow me to eat this sinful breakfast. Sobs.... T_T

Simply Tasty Long Beans Omelette

The day has arrived. The day I've always wondered about.

If only...
- If only I lost my appetite, what would it be like?
- How would it feel to wake up not thinking about breakfast?
- How would it feel to arrive at work not being excited about lunch?
- How would it feel not to be hungry at 11 am, despite the huge breakfast?
- Wouldn't it be nice if for once, I am not eagerly peeking into my lunch box or impatiently waiting for the clock to hit 1 pm?
- What would I do if I didn't search for yummy recipes all day or thought about where to go for dinner? (I should be working)
- Would the office be more quiet and peaceful if my stomach did not grumble every hour?
- Would I be the perfectly petite Hong Kong girl who fits into a pair of size 24 jeans if I didn't finish my second bowl of rice for dinner?
- Would the world be a better place if I didn't crave something sweet with my late evening bad TV programs?

Finally, it happened. The day I lost my appetite.
I was hyper, my heart was racing, I was restless, and most importantly, the whole day, there was no moment where I felt hungry, and I was not excited about food nor did I think about food at all.

What happened to me? Did I fall in love? Was I broken hearted? Not really.
Sous chef said it was probably the heat, but I can never be sure. It's still a mistery.

But...how was it?

Well...it was NO fun!

No matter how great it would be if I didn't enjoy food, loving and being excited about it feels wayyy better.

Here's something simple yet incredibly healthy and tasty, to celebrate our love for food.
Cheers!
Simply Tasty Long Beans Omelette

Sounds weird? I thought so too when I first tried this dish, cooked by sous chef's mom. I was not a fan of long beans, but I was surprised with how tasty it turned out. I am now officially hooked.

Recipe

- 3 eggs, beaten
- a bunch of long beans, sliced into 3-5mm pieces
- salt, pepper (or fish sauce)
- olive oil

Beat eggs, mix the long beans with the eggs, season well. Heat up wok/frying pan until it's really hot, then pour the mixture. Fry until you get a bit of brownage, the beans will keep the eggs moist. You can add freshly chopped chilli if you want some heat. Serve with steamed rice.

Sigh. The loss of appetite could've been a fantastic way to lose weight, no?

Mixed Sausages Scrambled Eggs - Cute Prop: Thy Cup Runneth Over! - I Won Something!

Lazy, but still wants something yummy. That sounds like me. I was too lazy to even go out to shop for ingredients last night. Too excited about all the wonderful things which are going on in my life...(nosy questions: like what? like what? work? love? life? like whattttt???) ...hehe...namely, this game called Hexic (Bah! So lame!). I could play it non stop, on SC's Xbox 360, on my mobile phone, at home, while cooking, while waiting for the cake baking, on my commute to work on the train, on the bus, waiting for traffic light, queueing for ATM, crossing the street (!!! Do not try this at home, it is dangerous and I must stop!!!)

Thus, I just put together something easy from any leftover ingredients lying around my fridge to make this yumminess:
Mixed Sausages Scrambled Eggs
- 1 Chinese liver sausage, sliced thinly
- 6 mini cheese dogs, sliced thick, around 5mm
(You can use other sausages)
- 1 bunch of spring onion, sliced thinly
- 4 eggs, beaten
- fish sauce, dark soy sauce, pepper

On a hot frying pan, fry the liver sausages. You don't need any oil, the Chinese sausages release loads of delicious tasting oil from the fat. Throw in the other sausages, cook until they are a bit crispy. Throw the spring onion in, cook until wilted, add beaten eggs with 1 tsp of fish sauce, lower heat, mix about to create texture, don't overcook eggs, you want it silky smooth. Remove pan from heat, serve with steamed rice, drizzled a bit with dark soy.

Yumminess is easy. It does not always need that much effort (another not-so-profound quote from me)

...and what did I find from my furniture (window) shopping trip last weekend?
This sexiness!
Is your cup half empty?
Half full?

So boobielicious! So, curvalicious!

...and...remember this childhood dish? This picture won the (Almost) Forgotten Indonesian Heritage contest hosted by my blogging pal Rurie.

WOW WOW WOW! (An obvious sign of an individual who hardly wins anything, if not at all). I feel so honored to be selected, thanks judge! and I'll get a book! Woohooo! (I don't have any cookbook at all, this will be my first ^_^, thanks again Rurie!)

My cup? sooo runneth over!

A Quick Hello from KL

Look at those overflowing mountains of goodies! I just wanted to dive, with mouth wide open, into those divine hills. Munch, munch, munch...and that was just the beginning! Not considering the vast array of tasty treats on the streets, there are also soooo many food outlets which I've missed but couldn't find in Hong Kong. Call me silly, but I was ooohing and ahhhhing at the sight of Wendy's, Dunkin Donuts, JCo Donuts, Cinnabon, Auntie Anne's and Karl Junior!

Naturally, I couldn't resist but started to buy some (not a lot, please believe me) goodies from the supermarket...and fell in love with the vintage-inspired packaging of these chocolates:

Cute!

Adorable!

Kinda creepy? Hehe

But I was suchhhhh a good girl, turned out I still have a teeny tiny bit of will power in me. I didn't buy any of those chocolate boxes, no matter how muchhh I love 'em. Hmmm, maybe I'll buy them tomorrow HAHA!

...and you'd think that this is a fab breakfast...but I had it at 10 something at night HAHA! It's from Pancake House, at Sunway shopping mall, it's a fast food outlet from the Philippines. Talk about all day breakfast! The cheese bits inside the pancake made the pancake perfect, but I was not crazy about the dry egg and the dry bacon.

I am now regretting my crazy idea of bringing a small luggage in an effort to look cool. I must buy those yummy looking instant noodles, snacks, cakes, sodas, curry spice packs...arrgghhh!

Omelette Sushi: Teriyaki Beef Fried Rice

I am not big on parties. By that, I meant planning and hosting one, as I mentioned when I was planning my Chinese Take-Out Party. But in terms of attending a party, pouring my whole heart and soul into having a good time, eating and drinking my azz off, and acting like a complete fool for everybody's enjoyment, I am your party animal.

I'll dress up or dress down into whatever you wanted me to wear, I'll play the games, and I'll sing and dance to whatever music being played, including "Country Road, Take Me Home". But most of all, I'll be the first to head off to the buffet table, and I'll be the last man standing, still scraping food off the trays, resisting the poor caterers who tried to clear the buffet table. This also explains my choices of party outfits. Although I like to look "nice" (and by "nice" I meant slutty hehe like cleavage cleavage cleavage LOL!), I never wear anything skin tight. I always leave plenty of room for multiple trips to the buffet table and the only reason I find it difficult to breathe is because I am normally stuffed up to my eyeballs with food. HA-HA-HA.

My idea of party food is something tasty and sinful (parties are all about indulgence, aren't they?), something which is substantial enough to bolster the amount of alcohol I might have to drink, and something I can still eat while looking effortlessly gorgeous and not at all animalistic (Mission Impossible? LOL).

So...
something tasty and sinful = nicely marbled fatty beef slices with teriyaki sauce
alcohol bolster = riceeeee
easy to pop into my mouth = bite size + japanese inspiration = omelette sushi =

Teriyaki Beef Fried Rice Omelette Sushi

Recipe
Teriyaki Beef Fried Rice

- 2 cups of rice, cooked one day ahead, refrigerate overnight
- 4 cloves of shallot, finely sliced
- 1 lb thinly sliced, nicely marbled fatty beef
- 1 cup of green peas
- teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, pepper

Saute shallot, add beef, add sauces, add rice, mix well, adjust taste by adding sauces if necessary. Let cool

Omelette
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 2 tsp corn starch
- 1/2 cup milk/cream

Mix corn starch with the milk/cream, pour into beaten eggs, mix well. In batches, make a thin, crepe-like omelette.

Omelette Sushi
On an omelette, arrange some beef and fried rice to form a long tube, wrap carefully (the omelette is very delicate), use a sharp knife to cut into bite sized pieces, secure with a toothpick, which also makes it easier for guests to pick.

If you found the omelette too troublesome to make and too delicate to wrap, you can use nori instead (the dry Japanese seaweed paper which is used to wrap sushi) ^_^

Submitting this recipe to Dhanggit's Perfect Party Dishes blog event to celebrate her little girl's first birthday! Yay!

This dish could also be served in a heated food tray, or just for every day dinner, in a rice bowl :)

Nonononono, I am not done with that, please don't take the tray away, excuse me! Sir! Sir!
