A Trip to Seafood Paradise, Sai Kung

First of all....
Happy Eid ul-Fitr!

Secondly, I accidentally hit "Publish" before I even wrote anything! HAHAHA! Happens to everybody, eh?

Anyway, I haven't been posting much as Hong Kong is BLESSED with two public holidays in October, and I've been spinning around Hong Kong with my beloved visitor from Bangkok. One of the stops was Sai Kung, one of Hong Kong's visitor and seafood paradise.

Live or salted seafood were sold on boats all along the harbour. Shouts of negotiations, money and goods being exchanged...I just love everything about it. I've been here for more than six years, but I still feel like a tourist, even more than my visitor, who was probably not impressed (Bangkok has an impressive floating market too!)

The impressive seafood displays in Saikung were feasts for our eyes. Did you see the size of those geoducks? WOW!

After all the wowing, ahhing, pointing, and picture taking, I bet they were gonna just order chicken. LOL

"Mom, is our dinner going to eat us?"

I haven't tried these horseshoe crabs...I wonder how they taste like under that hard army-tankish/ufo-ish exterior...

As we walked through the seaside, countless vendors tried to get us to dine at their restaurants, which were probably owned by the same owner anyway HAHA. My visitor hated this typical touristy atmosphere...I guess I was the only one who enjoyed it, I pulled brochure upon brochure, studied them and finally made a decision to dine based on the color of the tablecloth (YELLOW! HAHA). Here's an exaggeration of how the vendors persuaded us...

Seaside seafood dinner with two cute guys. I bet life doesn't get better than this, eh?

Tiny lobsters on a bed of noodle with cheese sauce. Everything was cooked perfectly. Very tasty!

Tiny abalone steamed with spring onion and soy sauce. I have never been a fan of abalone, but these tasted fantastic! I hope I won't be in love with it too much, though. These creatures are pricey!

Steamed fish with soy sauce. A Chinese classic. The meat was succulent, and super fresh. Hongkies are very particular with their seafood's freshness. If it ain't still flipping when it was steamed, it isn't good enough. Mean, eh?

Boiled prawn. Just dip 'em into soy sauce with chopped chillies. Some people hate peeling off shrimp shell...but I love it. It's therapeutic!

True to my Indonesian self, I demanded one deep fried dish, and I got these crayfish fried in spicy salt and pepper. Finger, dish and bowl lickin' good!

Chuen Kee Seafood Restaurant
Address: 53 Hoi Pong Street, Sai Kung (the seaside promenade)
Phone: 2791 1195

A meal isn't a meal without something sweet (What an excuse!!! lol). So we went to the famous Honeymoon Dessert for something Chinese. I ordered the cold sesame and walnut soup. Check out the picture in the menu, and check out the real thing when it arrived.

I wasn't about to complain...but we still checked for any disclaimer, and found it: "Photos for reference only". Indeed ^_^

Honeymoon Dessert
Address: 10C Po Tung Road, Sai Kung
Phone: 2792 4991

It was a beautiful view, a breathe of fresh air, a tasty seafood feast, and a sweet, delicious treat, with two super cute guys. I bet that's how a honeymoon should be (just minus 1 guy, eh?) hehe

Hong Kong is the place for seafood, and good food! I love live boiled prawns! I do not mind peeling them and sucking the juice of the head! Of course other people will find this gross, but how do we enjoy the true flavors of prawns if we do not do that? :)

Wah wah wah!!! If i show this to my Hubby, he surely will be jumping with joy. I went to Lamma Island for seafood last time and it was nothing compared to Sai Kung, the variety i mean. How to get here? Easy? Can teach me as am visiting HK again in Feb 09.
