Weekend Picnic at Hong Kong Park

We were dying to take baby Marcus for a picnic. Getting outside, breathing some (fresh?) air...ideally, playing around knowing that he'd land on a soft pillowy bed of grass when he fell, and enjoyed some homemade picnic spread.
"Picnic" at Hong Kong Park
Ideally being the operative word, since there was no field of grass to sit on anywhere, we surely didn't prepare any homemade picnic food, and the air's probably polluted ;)
But at least the sky was blue, the temperature was the perfect 26C, and we got to sit outside surrounded by trees, flowers and grass field we're not allowed to sit on.

Where were we?
Hong Kong Park, the back terrace of the Tea Museum. Heheheheh. Opps, we're probably not supposed to camp there, but there's no other place to sit T_T

What did we have?
We bought some food from Great supermarket, started our meal with a refreshing salad...

Various pieces of Thai snacks...

The fish cake was especially spicy and delicious!

Shrimp cake's not bad...

The seafood paella was probably a bad choice.

Mushy rice with overcooked seafood bits...the flavors were good though.

A bowl of fruits to end our meal with...

All fresh, all good.

We let baby Marcus taste each and every piece...

He was enjoying himself.

We were stupid enough to let him "taste" a grape, he almost swallowed and choked on it. Luckily we removed the grape in time. Whew! An important lesson for us.

Baby Marcus got to try something new too, baby food made of turkey and vegetables. Yikes (shudder). As expected, he didn't like it. Oppps.

What else were we doing in the park? Check out the pictures here.

Easy Cheesy Baked Egg Breakfast

Cheesy Baked Egg Breakfast
I made some cupcakes last night, but was in the mood for a hot savory breakfast this morning, so I just dumped an egg, some milk, a bit of oil, salt, black pepper, nutmeg, mix it up, topped with grated parmesan cheese and baked it in 250C oven for a few minutes....and done.

Cheesy Baked Egg Breakfast
Hot cheesy, eggy, savory, quick and easy breakfast.
I wish I had some bacon/nice sausages/ham on hand...

Padang Indonesia Restaurant, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong

Look what I've found in Hong Kong?
Padang Indonesia Restaurant
Asinan Bogor! A spicy, sweet and tangy picked fruits and vegetables dish that's super refreshing and absolutely perfect for warmer weather. Normally it's either fruits or vegetables, but they've gone untraditional by mixing both. The dish as chunks of cucumber, cabbage, jicama, mango, pineapple, topped with roasted peanuts and everything worked together b.  I'll surely be going back often for this dish in summer.

Padang Indonesia Restaurant
The tahu telor is one of my favorite dishes from Padang. Crispy and fluffy fried eggs and tofu with soft filling, drizzled with flavorful sweet, almost smoky sauce, with crunch from the sprouts. A very satisfying dish despite having no meat.

Padang Indonesia Restaurant
My number one favorite dish from this place, anything with their wonderfully chewy handmade noodles. This Jakarta fried noodles showcase the noodles, accompanying it with a balance of flavors, a touch garlicky, just like what we have in Indonesia. There are so many components in this dish...crunchy, sweet veggies, hearty chunks of chicken, refreshing touch of pickled vegetables, topped with sliced fried eggs and crispy shallot...everything made it perfect. I can't dine here without ordering one of their noodle dishes.

Padang Indonesia Restaurant
The Padang roast chicken is super yummydespite being so different from the typical "Padang" dishes served in Indonesia, which is normally very savory, spicy and coconut milky. This one has a lot more sweetness and smokiness to it, but I don't mind it at all, absolutely flavorful.

Padang Indonesia Restaurant
The sayur lodeh (vegetables cooked in coconut milk) would cure any Indonesian who's home sick. The flavors are spot on, just like what we have in Indonesia. The perfect tasty vegetable side dish.

Padang Indonesia Restaurant
Their sate might not be the best in Hong Kong, but the meat is tender, flavorful and it has the charcoal  smokiness that you can't replicate at home. More than decent.

Padang Indonesia Restaurant
The nasi kuning (yellow rice) is nicely done too. Fragrant and delicious from all the herbs, spices and coconut milk in it. Only available on Saturdays and Sundays though ;)

The durian smoothie, very creamy, rich, full of durian flavor from fresh durian flesh. Absolutely sinful, but totally worth it.

I am not a big fan of durian es cendol, as I love my cendol (the green worm shaped bits made of rice flour) a bit chewier, and I dislike the "Hong Kong" addition such as red bean, whipped cream and the cherry on top.

If you're not a durian lover and would like to sample some Indonesian drink-dessert, try the es campur (mixed ice). It has all kinds of sweet goodies such as grass jelly chunks, young coconut flesh, young mango flesh, palm seeds, jackfruit, syrup and coconut mik. I am not a big fan, but ordered it from time to time when I am homesick :)

Weekend Breakfast - Banana Cinnamon Toast

banana cinnamon toast
There's nothing better than waking up on a Sunday morning to a beautiful, sunny, 21C weather.
Wait.
There is.
Waking up on a Sunday morning to a beautiful, sunny, 21C weather and a good breakfast ;)

Today's menu, nothing fancy, just a good 'ol banana cinnamon toast and a cup of coffee.
banana cinnamon toast
Place banana slices on a piece of bread slathered with butter, top with a bit of sugar, sprinkle with cinnamon, grill in a preheated 200C oven until the toast is crisp. Blow torching would be nice, but who'd bother whipping out a blow torch at 8.30am Sunday morning?
Not me.

Happy weekend, everyone!

Char Siu Crepes

Char Siew Crepe
My first attempt at making my own crepes.

Oh, crap!
Char Siew Crepe
Did I just call those crepes? They're so seriously crappy, I couldn't spread them super thin and I couldn't make them round. They're in the shape of...giant amoebas.
Char Siew Crepe
Yikes!
I used this recipe. The recipe's pretty good and easy to follow, so I believe the problem was me, myself and I ^_^'
Next time I'll consider adding more salt/sugar to the batter to give it a touch more flavor.

Now the filling...
Char Siew Crepe
I like savory crepes, so I built my filling starting with oyster sauce and sriracha spicy sauce.
Add some market bought char siu...
Char Siew Crepe

Shredded cheeses (I normally use mozzarella and parmesan) freshly chopped cilantro...
Char Siew Crepe

Flip...
Char Siew Crepe
...and fold.
Char Siew Crepe
And bite the amoeba.
Despite looking horrrrible, it tasted pretty damn good.

What else did I put in the rest of my crap crepes?
