Hong Kong Street Snack - Cheong Fun & Siu Mai

I wish I had this plate of steamy goodness for breakfast this morning...
Hong Kong Snacks - Cheong Fun & Siu Mai
...silky smooth rolled rice sheets (cheong fun) and wonderfully chewy siu mai, drenched in soy sauce, peanut sauce and sweet sauce, sprinkled with sesame seeds.

It doesn't have to be from any famous shop, the cheong fun doesn't have to be hand rolled...I'd still LOVE!
If you're in Hong Kong, you've surely tried this? If you haven't, please go to any street snack stall/shop near you. Buddies abroad, do you have this in your area?

  5. Love these stuff! Agree that you don't really need to buy them from a famous shop, such as that Sham Shui Po one. They are all centrally supplied anyway!

What I look for, what the sauce they give you :D Thick gooey sesame sauce that isn't peanut sauce diluted 1:99 and good hoisin sauce is a must !

  6. When we lived in HK in the 70s and 80s there was a cheong fun moveable stall where our small street joined Waterloo Rd, my brother and I still reminisce about it.. it was pure cheong fun though I don't remember the siu mai bit.
Over here in Oz we can buy cheong fun in asian supermarket fridge section, microwave up at home then add sauce. It usually comes with little bits of dried prawn embedded.

  14. I would like to have this also! I don't get why the sweet sauce(?) has to be red though.

There is this sort of thing available but not widely available- usually dim sum is rolled cheong fun with filling in the middle (e.g. fish or meat or veggies). My area has Asian supermarkets where there are cheong fun like this but just plain- that way one can personalize it at home. They do provide a packet of soy sauce and hoisin sauce to go along.

Siu mai I haven't seen much available other than frozen in supermarket or in the restaurant...fish siu mai is even rare.
